Running alongside High Life Highland School's Out programme, these exciting activities provide plenty of ways for children and families to learn, play and explore during the October holidays in the Highlands.

Whether your child enjoys arts and crafts, nature, history or active outdoor play, there's something for everyone at School's Out at the Castle.

Get Creative

Let imaginations run wild with a range of creative drop-in sessions, including:

  • Create Your Own Story Stone and design a unique keepsake inspired by stories and legends.

  • Create your own Rose Window, where young creators can get hands-on with fun themed activities.

  • Pick up an activity book from the Bistro and follow the Cuillin Garden Trail to discover hidden features around Castle Hill.

Explore the Outdoors

Make the most of the autumn season with outdoor activities in the Castle Gardens.

Join High Life Highland Countryside Rangers for nature based sessions and discover the wildlife, plants and habitats found around Castle Hill.

Families can also put their skills to the test at our Mini Highland Games, inspired by traditional Scottish sporting events and designed to bring people together through fun and friendly competition.

Part of your Experience Ticket

Purchase a ticket to the main experience and step into the past with a special workshop from Inverness Museum and Art Gallery (IMAG).

Learn about fascinating objects featured in the Experience, uncover stories from the Highlands and enjoy the chance to dress up.

LEGO® Castle Scavenger Hunt

Calling all LEGO® fans! Explore in the North Tower in search of hidden LEGO® pieces in our exciting LEGO® Castle Scavenger Hunt.

This is a ticketed activity and advance booking is recommended.

Planning Your Visit

Before you visit, here are a few important things to know:

  • Most Schools Out at the Castle activities are drop-in sessions, making it easy to join in throughout the day.

  • The LEGO® Castle Scavenger Hunt requires booking.

  • Bookbug and the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery takeover are available to visitors who have booked a ticket to The Inverness Castle Experience.

  • Outdoor activities are subject to weather conditions, so please dress appropriately.

  • An adult must accompany all children aged 15 and under.

  • For ticketed Schools Out at the Castle activities, accompanying adults do not need to purchase a separate activity ticket.

  • A ticket to the main Experience is not included with Schools Out at the Castle activities unless specifically stated.
